What we’re building, and where you fit.
SupaHuman builds AI platforms that let regulated industries use AI safely. Our flagship product, VETos, is the AI operating system that vocational education providers across New Zealand and Australia run on. It generates assessments, training resources, and audit-ready compliance documentation in minutes, grounded in the frameworks the sector is actually held to (NZQA, ASQA, AQF). Weeks of specialist work, done in one pass.
As a Senior Product Engineer, you'll work in one of our co-build pods: smart and experienced product engineers paired with the subject-matter experts who use the product every day. You own features end to end, from the first investigation through to the deploy. Real scope, real decisions, and the room to run with them.
You'll leverage AI coding agents as a genuine part of how we work, which means less time on the mechanical parts and more on the ones that need you: the architecture, the product judgment, and the technical craft that turns a fast draft into something you'd happily put in front of a customer or a regulator.
“We're hiring a Senior Product Engineer in Auckland. VETos is the AI operating system vocational education providers run on. Weeks of specialist work, done in one pass. We're looking for someone to help build it.”
Why this role is worth your time.
Why you'll like it here:
You don't need to know vocational education. Most of the team didn't when they joined, and you'll have the time and access to grow into it alongside the people who live it every day. What matters more is that you get genuinely curious about how a sector works, its real problems and where the biggest opportunities are. Ownership from day one, not something handed out slowly over years. A real mandate to push AI tooling as far as it goes, with the reusable agents and automation you build lifting the whole team. You'll sit close enough to customers to watch your work land and make a difference, rather than hearing about it secondhand through a tracker. And the problem itself is a good one. A legacy sector, genuinely ready to change, with plenty still to build.
The scope is broad by design.
What you'd be doing:
- You'll work in one of our co-build pods, smart and experienced product engineers paired with the subject-matter experts who use the product every day. You own features end to end, from the first investigation through to the deploy. Real scope, real decisions, and the room to run with them. You'll also get to build the way most engineers are still only reading about. Leveraging AI coding agents is a genuine part of how we work, and it means you spend less time on the mechanical parts and more on the ones that need you: the architecture, the product judgment, the technical craft that turns a fast draft into something you'd happily put in front of a customer or a regulator. Your expertise is what makes the output good.
Be Brave. Be Hungry. Be Human.
We live by three values — and we’re searching for someone who embodies them and puts customers at the centre of their work.
Four or more years of senior-level engineering, with strong foundations across TypeScript, Python, React, and cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure). Real hands-on experience with generative AI: model SDKs, agent frameworks, RAG, MCP, prompt and context engineering, and a good sense of the tradeoffs between cost, accuracy, and latency. Someone who can make the call on a tough technical or product decision, talk comfortably with non-technical people, and stay curious about where the AI ecosystem is heading without getting swept up in the hype.
What you’ll bring.
Technical skills & experience
- 4+ years of senior-level engineering with strong hands-on skills across: Languages: TypeScript, JavaScript, Python Frontend: React, Next.js Cloud: AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure Data: SQL and NoSQL Knowledge and experience in core Gen AI technologies and concepts, such as: Model SDKs (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini) Agent frameworks (e.g. LangChain, ADK) Vector DBs & RAG (e.g. pgvector, Pinecone) MCP Prompt & context engineering AI safety & guardrails Cost, accuracy & latency tradeoffs Beyond the stack, you can take a feature from investigation through to deploy on your own, make sound calls on technical and product trade-offs, and explain your reasoning to non-technical people without hiding behind complexity.
