Customer story · Hader Institute of Education · Melbourne
The resources finally caught up with the teaching.
Hader Institute of Education teaches the people who will sit with Australians through addiction, crisis and recovery. Its learning materials never quite matched the ambition of its teaching. With VETos and Nova 5, they do.
Hader Institute of Education, in their own words
The challenge
Great teaching. Borrowed materials.
Hader's whole identity is proximity. It grew out of a rehabilitation clinic and still works clinically in the field it teaches, which almost no other provider can say. But the materials its learners studied from were bought off the shelf and reshaped by hand, unit by unit, by people whose time was better spent with students. With sixty-odd units on scope and ambitions for three times that, the limit on how fast Hader could grow was no longer its teaching. It was everything around it.
BEFORE
The change
Materials that sound like Hader.
VETos learned how Hader teaches: who its learners are, the language of alcohol and other drugs, mental health and community services work, and the Australian legislation and services that sit behind it. From there it drafts the assessments, learner guides and assessor guides, each mapped to the unit as it is written, and Hader's own educators decide what is good enough to carry its name. Nova 5 then carries the learning itself, from masterclass materials to interactive learner spaces the team can build and reshape without waiting on anyone.

What happened next
An old car to a Tesla.
- The first unit was in learners' hands within days of the agreement being signed
- The remaining Diploma of Counselling units were finished early, so the first learner could graduate on time
- That learner became the first person anywhere to complete a diploma on Nova 5
- A hundred units now being written as Hader's own, rather than bought
- Every unit since has been better for the conversation that shaped the first
"When I asked her how she found the new units, she said it was like moving from driving an old car to a Tesla."
Your materials, in your voice.
Bring a unit you teach and watch VETos draft it the way your educators would. Hader did, and its learners noticed.
